Bermudadreieck Candle Collection

2023
plaster, candle wax, pearls and diverse plastic ornaments

The Bermuda Triangle Candle Collection is the first creative collaboration between artists and designers Andreea Gwerder, Lena Eberhard and Pascale Küng. This collection was created in the context of the art and design market at Kunsthaus Glarus and combines their shared artistic interests in pastiche, kitsch, art history and culinary art. The candles made of composition wax are handmade, colored and playfully twisted into each other. They leave an organic impression, as if intertwined bodies were dancing together.
The plaster base is reminiscent of artfully sprayed cake icing, which envelops the candles in a voluminous and seemingly uncontrolled manner and is decorated with additional kitschy beads and decorative elements. The result is a visual feast that challenges the senses and playfully pushes the boundaries of kitsch.
The candles give the illusion of materiality and the viewer is challenged to question their perception. We want to rethink the function of kitsch and its value in society, because decoration and ornamentation are often stigmatized and dismissed as superficial and feminine.
